Physiotherapy treatments have looked at footwear, taping, strengthening the quadrecieps and orthotic shoe devices to treat the problem with good results. However recent research has steered us in the direction of other areas that may influence the knee namely the hip and the lumbopelvic areas.
Strengthening the hips can prevent the onset of many common lower-leg pain and knee injuries, especially in runners.
It is believed that weakness in the muscles that support the hips may contribute towards many overuse injuries in runners. Research suggests that hip muscle weakness changes lower leg mechanics and increases forces in the leg and foot while taking impact on activities such as running. Should you require an assessment or condition monitoring of an injury we would be pleased to assist you in your recovery.
